Composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky., the libretto, retains much of the poetry of Alexander Pushkin's novel. Eugene Onegin is a well-known example of lyric opera, to which Tchaikovsky added music of a dramatic nature. The opera was first performed in Moscow in 1879.
Eugene Onegin is a co-production of the Metropolitan Opera and English National Opera. |
